Description
The Continental wine glass fountain set would have been produced as a centrepiece whilst being exceptionally rare when produced in the 19th century. The wine fountain comprises of a mushroom gilded stopper that sits in a cut and gilded barrel that rests on a stand with outer cut foot and the spout is gilded in the form of an animal’s head. The footed tray stand has a cut rim and rests on a substantial foot with fruiting grape and vine gilding. The ten glasses have gilded rims with cut bowls and gilded grapes and fruiting vine bowls, falling down onto a panel cut stem, resting a flat foot with outer star cut base with inner polished pontil.
The wine fountain is exceptionally rare and would have been very ostentatious when produced whilst being used as a centrepiece in the room. These sets are exceptionally hard to acquire one that is a complete set while the gilding and cut glass is in remarkable condition.
